Master Sgt. Matthew B. Smith

Education: Arizona State University (BM) / George Washington University (MA) / Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MA, in progress)

Master Sergeant Matthew B. Smith joined the West Point Band in 2010. Originally from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, he earned a Bachelor of Music from Arizona State University in 2001. His principal horn teachers include Thomas Bacon, William Lane, Randy Gardner, Duane Dugger, and Bruce Heim. Prior to joining the band, Master Sgt. Smith spent three years with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia. He has also performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and Pops, Richmond Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, and Louisville Orchestra. In 2021, he earned a master’s degree in education and human development from George Washington University and is currently pursuing a master's in theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
