Staff Sergeant Carl Stanley joined the West Point Band in 2015. Born and raised in California, he earned a music degree in 2008 from California State University, East Bay. He then served in the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band in Hampton, Virginia, where he performed with the Concert Band and Heritage Brass Quintet. Staff Sgt. Stanley also deployed to the Middle East as a member of the AFCENT Band, which utilized music to improve U.S. foreign relations. In 2013, he left the active duty Air Force to earn a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music.
