Master Sergeant J. Andrew Porter joined the West Point Band in 2005. As a percussionist and educator, his experience includes teaching positions at JJ Pearce High School in Texas and Barren County High School in Kentucky. He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Baton Rouge Symphony, Natchez Opera, Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps, and Music City Mystique indoor drumline. Highlights from his tenure in the Hellcats include presentations and performances for Drum Corps International Championships; the Percussive Arts Society International Convention; Highland Military Tattoo in Fort George, Scotland; the Royal Marines School of Music; and the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival in Colorado. When off duty, Master Sgt. Porter enjoys spending time with his wife and son, functional fitness workouts, and woodworking.
