Sergeant First Class Drew Mangus joined the West Point Band in 2014, coming from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He began playing horn in public school and was taught by his father, a horn player and lifelong band director. Sgt. 1st Class Mangus earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of Oklahoma, studying under Eldon Matlick. He earned a master’s in music performance from Southern Methodist University where he studied under Gregory Hustis and Haley Hoops of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Sgt. 1st Class Mangus has performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He also spent a summer in Breckenridge, Colorado, performing with the National Repertory Orchestra.
