Sgt. Maj. Brian Broelmann

Guitar

Sergeant Major Brian Broelmann currently serves at the Ceremonial Concert Band Element Leader. He performs on saxophone in the Marching Band and on guitar in the Concert Band, though has even been known to pick up the accordion and the theremin when the situation calls for it. Sgt. Maj. Broelmann holds degrees in music education and saxophone performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where he studied with Dr. Timothy McAllister.

Following a brief stint teaching music in Florida, New York, Sgt. Maj. Broelmann joined the West Point Band as a saxophonist in 2001. During his time in the West Point Saxophone Quartet, Sgt. Maj. Broelmann contributed to the group’s inaugural recording, Fault Lines. As a founding member of the West Point Band’s Quintette 7, Sgt. Maj. Broelmann contributed to the development of the group’s unique performance style, and can be heard on the group’s debut recording, Quintette 7 Plays the Music of Raymond Scott. ‍

In 2012, Sgt. Maj. Broelmann moved to guitar as his primary instrument. Since that time, he has performed with the Concert Band, the West Point String Band, the Benny Havens Band, and as soloist and accompanist in a variety of settings. One of his greatest honors remains accompanying the Band’s vocalists in performances for local veterans groups.
