Staff Sergeant Gillian Huff joined the West Point Band in 2017. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Music in music education, then attended Northwestern University, where she earned a Master of Music in trumpet performance. While at Northwestern, she attended the Chautauqua Music Festival and the Brevard Music Center, both on full scholarships. Soon after graduation, she won the second trumpet position with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and continued to freelance in the greater Chicago area. During her time in the band, she has subbed in the Concert Band, performed with the Army Trumpet Ensemble, and has been featured on broadcast television. Staff Sgt. Huff continues to freelance in the greater Hudson Valley area in her spare time. She is currently serving as the principal trumpet of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist she won second prize in the North International Music Competition and was a finalist in Orchestra Noir’s 2018 Medallion International Concerto Competition.
