Sergeant First Class Cory Thompson is originally from Liberty, South Carolina and joined the West Point Band in August of 2020. His previous assignments include the Ninth Army Band at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska; the Training and Doctrine Command Band at Fort Eustis, Virginia; the Eighth Army Band at Yongsan, South Korea; the First Armored Division Band at Fort Bliss, Texas; the Army School of Music at Joint Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia; and the Army Ground Forces Band at Fort McPherson, Georgia.
Since joining the Army Bands program in 2006, Sgt. 1st Class Thompson has performed with various chamber ensembles and various bands all over the United States and South Korea. He has also appeared in multiple performances at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the International Clarinet Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention.
In addition to his work with the Army Bands, Sgt. 1st Class Thompson has performed with the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Wind Symphony, El Paso Wind Symphony, Palmetto Concert Band, Meridian Symphony, and Southern Mississippi Symphony. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Music Performance degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
