Master Sergeant Cory Thompson joined the West Point Band in 2020. Originally from Liberty, South Carolina, he earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Carolina in 2003 and a Master of Music from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2006. Since joining the Army Bands program in 2006, Master Sgt. Thompson’s assignments have included the Ninth Army Band at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska; the Training and Doctrine Command Band at Fort Eustis, Virginia; the Eighth Army Band at Yongsan, South Korea; the First Armored Division Band at Fort Bliss, Texas; the Armed Forces School of Music at Joint Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia; and the Army Ground Forces Band at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He has served in various leadership positions while in service and performed with various chamber ensembles and bands throughout his career, both military and civilian.
